2021 Fall 2-A History of the Issues and Challenges Facing Public Education
This course is designed for educators from grades K-12. The participant will be provided with a basic working knowledge of the legal structure of public education. Where possible, particular emphasis will be given to school systems within Pennsylvania. Topics to be covered include church-state-education relationships, race-state-education relationships, school boards, financing education, curriculum, and graduation requirements. Court cases applicable to every area of public education covered in this course will provide opportunity to examine firsthand the reasoning of the courts in deciding important issues. The course has no prerequisites or prior requirements.
